A Guide for the Average Golfer

I did not coin the phrase The Ugly Par. The Ugly Par was born on a local golf course in Carmel, IN. The author shall remain nameless, but you know who you are.

The inspiration for wanting to write this began on a bright sunny day participating in what has become my favorite pastime, a round of golf. I am not a great golfer or even a good golfer. I am an ever so slightly above-average golfer. Will reading this book make you a better golfer? Doubtful. This article is not about making you a better golfer. It is about helping the average golfer enjoy golf as much as an average golfer can, eliminate the need to be so hard on yourself, and enjoy the game. I know, easier said than done.

I was playing my usual inconsistent round with my regular group and the round was a nightmare. Coming to hole #15, a 340-yard par 4 off an elevated tee, a slight dogleg left hitting into an elevated, small green… yikes.

I pulled out a 3-Wood, teed it up and my over-the-top swing landed my ball about 40…
