I walked away from the highest paying job I ever had.

Best decision I ever made.

I recently decided to retire and begin the next chapter of my life. People retire every day so why is it such a difficult decision? I have multiple theories and thoughts on this issue. Here are a few.

We know how much money we have; we don’t know

how much time we have left in this life.

Priority Shift — Time v Money

First, there is a priority shift in your perspective. For me, it was making the conscious decision to place a higher value on time over money. There are numerous stories of folks working into their late sixties and seventies, only to die unexpectedly. If they could only get that time back and change their decision. Time spent is time lost. This age-old edict will never change.

There are few guarantees in life and your continued good health is certainly no exception. Seemingly healthy people get sick. It is not about trying to predict if your good health will last, it’s about making the decision that you will now place a higher value of on your time and not how much money you’re making or the things you want to buy. We all know how much money we have; we don’t know how much time we have left in this life.
